In October 2020 we’re becoming Habitats & Heritage following the merger of Environment Trust and South West London Environment Network (SWLEN).

Habitats & Heritage vision is a restored and extensive natural and historical heritage in south and west London which connects and enriches fragmented, degraded and isolated historic and green spaces, and which are accessible and inviting to all, to explore, co-create, actively experience and feel part of.

Our mission is to protect and restore our threatened rivers, green spaces, parks and historic built environment for this and future generations. We will promote an accessible and inclusive approach to our environmental and historical heritage and seek to deepen peoples’ sense of wellbeing, belonging and pride in place through learning and appreciation of the local environment. We promote sustainable lifestyles and recognise the inter-connectedness of all aspects of human activity.

Our work will focus on engaging individuals, communities, friends groups and the wider public by:

  • Connecting fragmented green spaces and the communities and groups associated with their care, creating green hubs and wildlife corridors, urban re-wilding
  • Growing bio-diverse habitats in communities as a heritage activity and for positive impact on climate change
  • Protecting and restoring the natural and historical environment through ecology, built heritage and sustainability projects
  • Exploring and experiencing our local environment through education, learning and events for all ages
