Welcome to Get on Board 2019, which this year takes place on Friday 21 June 2019.
The main aim of ‘Get on Board’ is to highlight the problem of plastic pollution in our waterways. But it’s also about building on the success of 2018 and creating a great community event involving residents, businesses, workers and charities both on the water and on the towpath.
Be Richmond Chairman Erick Kervaon said:
“The river is an integral part of Richmond and one of its greatest assets. A clean, healthy river is vital to the town for both business and recreation. Get on Board 2019 will demonstrate our commitment to the environment and be a great fun event for participants and spectators alike.”
In addition to the popular paddleboard event (more information about this here), a towpath litter pick is also undertaken. In scaling up this years event, we are increasing the number of routes litter picked:
- Kew Bridge to Richmond Bridge along the Surrey bank
- Ham to Richmond Bridge along the Surrey Bank
- Isleworth to Richmond Bridge along the Middlesex bank
- Twickenham to Richmond Bridge along the Middlesex bank
The towpath litter pick is organised by the environmental and community development charity South West London Environment Network on behalf of Be Richmond, and as such, by signing up you are agreeing for the charity and Be Richmond to hold your contact details and contact you in relation to this event and future towpath litter picks or plastic pollution.
