London Rivers Week is happening this year between May 25 and 2 June, across two weekends. There are many events to celebrate our rivers across the capital, so check Thames 21 website to see how to take part.
This year’s main theme is Rewilded Rivers! London’s rivers are being rewilded – restored back to as natural a state as possible through different measures such as installing reedbeds, removing concrete channels, allowing rivers space to flood over water meadows, reconnecting them with their local floodplain, restoring adjacent wetlands and in some cases ‘daylighting’ them – bringing them above ground againLondon’s rivers are essential habitats and resources for wildlife including otters, trout, bats, kingfishers and migrating fish including critically endangered eels among others.
The team behind LRW have rewilded more than 20km of river in the capital!
Keep an eye on Thames 21 to find all the events happening across the capital, take part by joining one or create your own!
